Is Ryan Reynolds Teasing Deadpool's Phase 5 MCU Debut?
Could Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool be joining the MCU in Phase 5? That's certainly the implication from Reynolds' Instagram feed.As spotted by ScreenCrush, Reynolds posted the following the teaser earlier this week:
This post is timed to mark the fifth anniversary of the leaked test footage that wound up being instrumental in convincing Fox to greenlight the first Deadpool movie. However, there seems to be a deeper significance to the post. Between Reynolds name-dropping "Phase 5" and including Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi in the photo collage, Reynolds clearly wants fans to assume that Deadpool will be joining the MCU in Phase 5.Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently unveiled the complete lineup for Phase 4 of the MCU at Comic-Con, but that lineup was absent any mention of recent Fox acquisitions like the X-Men and Fantastic Four. However, Feige did tease future announcements regarding Fantastic Four, Black Panther 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. If this teaser is to be believed, fans may not have too long to wait before Deadpool makes the jump to the MCU. It also seemingly confirms Reynolds will continue to play Wade Wilson, even as Marvel prepares to reboot the larger X-Men franchise.Prior to the Phase 4 reveal, Feige shot down rumors that Marvel was considering one of several ways to induct Deadpool into the MCU, including having him play a guest role in Spider-Man: Far From Home's sequel. For more on the X-Men movie franchise, check out our ranking of every single X-Men movie, learn why X-Men movie continuity is bad movie continuity and find out why Marvel artist Bill Sienkiewicz is still excited for the New Mutants movie.Jesse is a mild-mannered writer for IGN.
